Mas Art Hysteria – From Canvas to Music and Dance (2009-2010) –presents a visual perspective on the evolution of “mas” visual art making in Trinidad & Tobago, depicting how Caribbean “mas” artists have examined and represented historical and contemporary post-colonial times through their creations. These works demonstrate how major public concerns and opinions, local, regional and international social issues and political crises have impacted and shaped creative ideas and the artist’s use of visual art forms to highlight these issues. Contemporary artists expose the materials used in creating “mas” art and the unique and dramatic visual images that come alive during carnival, the world’s largest theatre of the street.
